Alweezgrooven – after the festival…

I trust everyone has returned back to reality by now? ;)

Truly, this was an excellent event. The weather was perfect, the site was full of cars & tents, everyone had great things to say and fun adventures were had by everyone. Despite initial problems with directions and some parts of the road being a bit tricky to maneuver, the amount of people that came to enjoy their weekend with us was unbelievable. Inevitably, the support we received throughout this past weekend is reason enough to do this again next year.

Having said that, it’s important to understand that it is never easy to organize an affordable event which is of good quality and is free for all to attend. Yet each year we strive to bring a bigger, better show while continually trying to cater to everyone’s needs and wishes.

To make it all work, we help each other out in numerous ways. It is within the help we give and receive where we find our calling and who we are, and what friends really mean to us. We also try to follow in the tradition of teknivals from around the world: to provide a free electronic music event to anyone who wishes to attend, to go against commercial culture and be free for a few days from capitalism, greed and profit, and to get away from the repetition and mundane life of the every-day responsibilities we all have – during one special weekend each year.

In 2011, we anticipate an even bigger crowd to attend. We also expect a larger soundsystem with even more attention to visuals and decorations, which will be added by us – and you. Like all teknivals, Alweezgrooven is a DIY (do it yourself) festival and everyone is encouraged to participate in all sorts of different ways.

A huge thank you to everyone who came, to all those who helped out and anyone else that was a part of this experience: you know who you are. I welcome you with open arms to the Alweezgrooven family. Thank you for the memories; our journey will not be forgotten.

See you all next year, alweezgrooven now… and forever.

Alweezgr00ven festival 2010

Once a year, we gather on a magical land where camping, swimming, loud music and mother nature unite for a common cause – to reconnect and return us to balance, as we get away from the every-day routine of daily life.

For one special weekend each summer, come dance under the stars and experience what it’s like to be free, to be always groovin’ to those awesome electronic beats.

Join us in what has become a yearly celebration of the music we play… and the friends we have come to know and love.

—ALWEEZGROOVEN—

NOW TWICE THE FUN AT THE SAME GREAT PRICE.. * FREE *

July 9th – July 12th, 2010
lac Dumont, Quebec, Canada

WHAT IS IT?
‘Alweezgrooven’ is a free festival held at lac Dumont, Quebec. It is located about 2 hours north of Ottawa and takes place on the second weekend of July.
It is held on Crown Land, which means zero chance of being shut down by local authorities. This location has been used for many years for this very purpose and always without any issues.
Unlike most festivals where you pay to get in, here you don’t have to be searched by pesky security, there are no fences or gates, no waiting lines, no tickets, no profit is being made. You are free to come and go whenever you like.
While it is a free party, everyone is encouraged to participate fully in many different ways: bring your drums, bring your instruments, bring your art and most of all, bring positive energy.

WHEN DOES IT START?
The journey begins at noon on Friday and music does not stop until Monday. There is some quiet time on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Depending entirely on how many people remain, it is not uncommon to hear music well into Monday night. You should consider booking the Monday off and stay the extra day – it’s well worth it.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC?
The music you will hear varies due to the ‘open decks’ concept that always draws many aspiring DJs and artists. On most nights, you will hear styles ranging from broken beats, house, tech, trance and dub, right to tech-house and various levels of minimal. When mornings arrive, you can expect to hear most appropriate techno and trance we can deliver. Later part of the morning and afternoons bring dubstep, progressive, chill and ambient sounds to calm your senses from the night before and to prepare you for the night ahead.

WHAT ELSE IS THERE TO DO?
Apart from a picturesque view of lac Dumont and the surrounding mountains, there is plenty to see and do. From hiking or swimming out into the huge lake from sand-covered beaches, to watching dazzling fire poi and fireworks, the lake offers a lot of fun for everyone. This is a DIY (Do It Yourself) festival, which means you can bring a variety of supplies to improve your experience.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is 100% FREE ENTRY to camping, parking, music and nature. You will need a way to get there/back, and you will need to bring supplies for the duration of your stay. Remember, there is nothing bought or sold on this land and there is no running water or electricity. The closest store to buy supplies i.e. food, drink, gas, firewood, etc. is about 24km away in Cayamant.

HOW CAN I HELP?
Bring potable water, ice, warm clothes, food, a first aid kit, firewood, rain gear, flash lights, bug spray, sunblock and anything else you may need to enjoy your weekend. Also, bring anything that might improve the overall experience of the festival. After all, it is yours to build and grow. Most importantly, bring your friends and positive energy!

I’M A DJ. HOW DO I GET A SLOT?
Simple – bring music! There are no slots – more like… ‘blocks’ of time. Typically, most DJs play 1 or 2 hours. You can play any musical style you like and will get to play whenever a spot becomes available. Also, try to maintain a flow to the weekend and play accordingly depending on the time of day/night, while still maintaining your sound:

Friday noon – 9pm = open decks
______9pm – 9am = guests, open decks

Saturday 9am – 3pm = open decks, chill
________3pm – 6pm = break

Saturday 6pm – 9pm = open decks
________9pm – 9am = guests, residents

Sunday 9am – 3pm = open decks, chill
_______3pm – 6pm = break

Sunday 6pm – 9am = residents

Monday 9am – close = open decks, chill

note: above times are approximate and only serve as a general guideline.

2nd STAGE 100% CONFIRMED…

F.A.K. / TundraRecord.org and Shocker Pro will be joining forces this weekend to bring a second stage.

Whats that mean to all of you partiers… MORE MUSIC, MORE STAGES, MORE VARIETY, in tunes at various times of the day and night … Second stage will, provide an outlet for anyone hopeing to hear more ALT. music….Psytrance, DnB, Hardcore, Breaks. hardtrance even light Trance, even a classicly stacked classic rock afternoon set…. Alweezgrooven, now 2 X the fun…

HOW ABOUT SAFETY/SECURITY?
Although not entirely remote, lac Dumont is at least 45 minutes by car on a dirt road to the nearest village. This means that should anyone require emergency assistance, it may take some time. Be responsible.

WEATHER FORECAST?
This forecast is taken from the Farmer’s Almanac, JULY 2010:
avg. temperature: 18°C (2°C below avg.); avg. precipitation: 85mm (15mm below avg.); July 1-6: t-storms, then sunny, cool; July 7-11: scattered showers, seasonable; July 12-17: t-storms, then sunny, cool; July 18-21: scattered showers; July 22-25: t-storms, then sunny, warm; Jul 26-30: rain, then sunny, seasonable; Jul 31: t-storms.

…an open invitation to artists, djs & soundsystems…

Teknivals are large, free and open-minded festivals, which take place worldwide. They take place most often in Europe and are usually illegal under various national or regional laws. They vary in size from dozens to thousands of people, depending on factors such as accessibility and reputation, weather and of course – the police.

The parties often take place away from residential areas and take place outdoors: in empty military bases, forests, fields or campgrounds. The Teknival phenomenon is a grassroots movement which has grown out of the rave, UK traveller and Burning Man scenes and spawned an entire subculture.

In 2008, there were 7 stages, with artists and djs from as far as the U.S., Ontario & Quebec. The event is absolutely fantastic and bias-free. It is held approximately two hours north of Ottawa on Crown land, with zero chance of being shut down. 100% free entry to parking, camping, music and nature.

This is a DIY event and a community project; everyone gets the opportunity to participate and enjoy as much as they like. The more positive effort and energy we put into it, the more we receive in return.

This year, alweezgrooven presents a properly-tuned soundstage, with a wide variety of electronic music provided by many artists & DJs. In case you don’t get it, ‘alweezgrooven’ is me, you – all of us. Think about it: we know each other well enough to be able to come together, bring some gear and spend a few days in a forest, on a beach, at the end of a long and treacherous dirt road, together as family and friends for one purpose — to experience something truly magical and unforgettable. We do this because it’s fun and it feels good. We get into a ‘groove’ and we enjoy the beats. We have been doing this for years. We are… always groovin’, so to speak.

Location: copy & paste these coordinates into Google Maps: 46.089082, -76.409783

~ LOCATION: lac Dumont (near Cayamant/Petit Cayamant, about 2 hours north of Ottawa, towards Maniwaki)
~ SITE: flat area for camping/parking, hundreds of feet of sandy beaches and water up to your waste a few hundred yards out, plenty of trees and shade
~ DATE: Friday July 10 – Monday July 13
~ SOUND: covered DJ booth, 2x 1200s, 4x CDJs, 2x mixers, sonic maximizer, compression & EQ – 6,500 watts RMS/13,000 watts peak
~ DJs: open decks
~ MUSIC: all genres
~ LIGHTS: the stars & moon, a camp fire, fireworks, laser, firepoi
~ DECOR: bring your own, make your own, create in advance or make some on the spot
~ FACILITIES: none
~ DIRECTIONS:

…leaving via King Edward to QC:

- cross bridge and head 22km North on highway 5 toward Maniwaki.
- Continue until the highway ends, right at stop sign and immediate left
at the lights, direction 105 North (toward Maniwaki).
- Drive 69km, direction 105-N.
- Shortly after you pass a bridge on your right (do not cross it!),
turn left on Chemin du lac Cayamant, you will also see the first sign for FORET DE L’AIGLE.
- Drive 17km to the village of Cayamant and find the last store (with ‘SAQ’ sign)
on the left side to get any last-minute supplies.
- Drive 300m past this store and turn left on Chemin du Petit Cayamant,
toward Foret de l’Aigle “SUD/SOUTH” entrance:

- Drive about 1km on a bumpy, rough paved road and turn right at fork on Chemin de l`Aigle.
- At the next fork in the road, stay left on Chemin de l`Aigle, still heading toward Foret de l’Aigle.
- At about 4.5km, there is a split in the road, turn left.
(you know its the right way when you turn and the road goes left & uphill and also the road gets a bit worse.
Do not continue into the Foret de l’Aigle at this point. I think its near the “4km” marker)

…now drive slowly and carefully for about 13-14km to the site:
-You will cross puddles, rocks & branches, continue on the dirt road.
-At about 10.5km, there should be a large pond on the left with some wood (apparently a beaver dam)
on your left and more puddles to cross.
-Turn right 300m after these puddles on a sand road.
-Keep to the right at the fork in the road and follow the sand road for about 2.6km.

Hints:
Once in Cayamant and on all the dirt roads, watch out for 4-wheelers, off-road bikes and trucks.
Look for orange ribbons on trees to help you go the right way.
Easier to drive during the day than at night.
Take your time & use all of the road when necessary – if my lowered Acura can make it, so can you.
Don`t try to drive a car down to the beach. Unless you have a 4×4, you will get stuck in the sand.

Total distance from Ottawa is app. 130km. The last 20 kms are going to take you about 45-60 minutes.
Please be patient and drive carefully.
